Woyanne Commander kills himself in Somalia

An Ethiopian commander has committed suicide in Somalia after finding out about the UIC fighters’ destroying a long-awaited food convoy.

The commander, who used to serve in the Somali military in the central region of Hiiran, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he learned that the Union of Islamic Courts (UIC) fighters had destroyed a food convoy the Ethiopian forces expected nine days before, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The fighters had earlier attacked the three military vehicles laden with the much-needed food and water supplies, killing the 15 Ethiopian troops in charge of the aid convoy, and setting fire to the supplies.

The vehicles had just crossed Somalia’s border with Ethiopia and were heading towards the desperate troops.

UIC spokesman Sheikh Abdi Rahim Isse Addow confirmed the incident, saying they would attack Ethiopian soldiers who had gone long without food and water.
