As I watched terrorists attacking Mumbai, India’s business capital, and playing havoc with the city’s famous landmarks, on November 26, I immediately remembered Hargeisa, capital of my country Somaliland, where almost a month before suicide bombers caused chaos by driving SUVs laden with explosives to the presidential palace, UNDP headquarters and the office of the Ethiopian Political Representative, killing scores of people and injuring many others. “I was not surprised to hear Teddy was ‘convicted’ in Zenawi’s kangaroo court. I predicted long ago that he would be “convicted.” Logically, Zenawi had no choice but to convict him. After all, Teddy is the ultimate musical symbol of Ethiopian unity. His songs foster Ethiopian unity and reconciliation. His music was a bridge — an arch — across ethnic and religious lines.

Doctors qualify in Somali capital

Student doctors have graduated from a medical school in the Somali capital of Mogadishu – for the first time in nearly two decades.

The ceremony for 12 men and eight women was held inside a barricaded hotel, guarded by police, in the capital.
