Ethiopian Kangaroo court and the verdict of Star singer and activist Teddy-Afro

We, the Ethiopian Somali Advocacy, have opposed the misguided and injustice verdict that the minority regime of Tigray has passed last week As we mark the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human rights one cannot help but notice that even 60 years on after the world committed to the respect of rights globally we have not yet achieved these goals. For example, the minority Tigray has been killing left and right the innocent Ethiopian and put them in jail without rule of law.

After an eight month trial, Ethiopia’s most popular singer Tewodros Kassahun  popularly known as Teddy Afro was convicted of manslaughter in a hit and run accident, and fleeing the scene without helping the homeless male victim.
“We found the defendant guilty of the charges,” said the servant of minority regime, Judge Leuel G/Mariam as he read the verdict.
Following the verdict, a court on Friday sentenced him to six years of imprisonment for a crime committed in 2006 which Ethiopians say has never taken place and his conviction is a government vendetta.
Teddy Afro, is a national icon whose patriotic songs have been the source of discomfort of the ruling party whose founding principles are drawn along fomenting ethnic differences and conflict.
Teddy looked disappointed with the verdict and told the court: “I don’t want to defend myself in a court where law isn’t respected.”
The charges brought against Teddy by the prosecutor were killing a young man by hitting him with a BMW while driving without a license and fleeing the area without helping the man.
As the so-called prosecutor requested the maximum sentence, Teddy, who is expecting his sentence today, December 5, faces 15 years in prison.
During the trial, the prosecutor had witnesses from the security forces, traffic police and Minilik Hospital, and also presented documents and pictures that showed how the accident occurred.
After listening and viewing all the evidence from the prosecution, the judge asked Teddy and his legal team to present their case.
Teddy, who pleaded not guilty of the charges through his lawyer, Million Assefa, had witnesses who testified he was not at the scene of the accident and had employees from Minilik Hospital cross-examined.
However, the judge ruled that Teddy’s witnesses’ testimony were so similar that they must have coordinated their story and that it only explained that they were with him at the time of the accident. He added: “They, however, didn’t disprove that the car was at the hand of the defendant at the time of the accident.”
The court also accepted the controversial death certificate with the changed

date of death. The certificate was altered at the request of the police and prosecutor, as although Teddy’s charge states he killed the young boy on July 29, 2007, the document from the hospital originally read that the man was killed on July 30, 2007.
“The professionals from the hospital didn’t disprove the changed document,” Leuel said. The court has handed down sentencing on Friday November 5, 2008.

We ,  Ethiopian Somali Advocacy, has calling for all Ethiopian to take part in the demonstration  in front of Woyane Embassy in Washington DC and request the immediate release of icon and nationalist Ethiopian Teddy-Afro
