Checkpoints removed
MOGADISHU ( Sh. M. Network)-Abdulahi Hassan Barise, the spokesman of the Somali police forces has confirmed that most of the government checkpoints were removed from the streets in the Somali capital Mogadishu on Thursday.
Mr. Barise told Shabelle radio that they have removed all the checkpoints in the capital as Ex-control checkpoint, the biggest roadblock which the government soldiers were extorting money from the transport in and out of the capital and more other checkpoints in the city saying that they handed over the checkpoints to forces of the Islamic Courts Union loyal to Somalia’s president Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed.
Abdifitah Ibrahim Shaweye, the deputy mayor of Mogadishu said they handed the bases to government forces referring to the Islamic Courts Union.
The statement of the police spokesman Mr. Barise comes as the national security committee announced earlier that they would remove all the checkpoints in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
